Historic appointment follows September 23 legislative elections; Prime Minister El Mansouri tasked with forming Morocco's new government.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- His Majesty King Mohammed VI today appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as Prime Minister, formally the Kingdom's Head of Government, making her the first woman to hold the position. She has been tasked with forming Morocco's new government.

Her appointment follows the September 23 legislative elections, in which the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) won 97 seats, the largest number in the House of Representatives. Under Morocco's Constitution, the King appoints the Head of Government from the political party that wins the largest number of seats in elections to the House of Representatives.

El Mansouri, 50, is an attorney who most recently served as Minister of National Territory Planning, Land Planning, Housing and City Policy and as Mayor of Marrakech. She has also served as a member of the collective leadership of PAM.
