Four new grants in 2026 take Salunda's Red Zone portfolio to 33 patent rights in force across five patent families and nine jurisdictions, within a global portfolio of 140 granted patents
OXFORD, England, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Salunda Limited, the specialist in Red Zone safety technology for upstream drilling and other harsh industrial environments, today announced continued growth in its global patent portfolio, led by Red Zone monitoring.
Salunda has been granted four new Red Zone monitoring patents so far in 2026, in Europe, the United States and Guyana. Its Red Zone portfolio now stands at 33 granted patents and national validations, more than double the 16 it held at the start of 2025. Red Zone monitoring accounts for four of the five patents Salunda has been granted this year.
Continuous innovation in Red Zone monitoring
Salunda's Red Zone portfolio spans five patent families, protected in major jurisdictions across North America, Europe, South America, Asia and Australia. It includes 13 granted US patents. Recent grants include:
- EP3844531, personnel safety sensing, validated in the UK, Norway and the European Unitary Patent area
- EP3884201, proximity-based personnel safety, validated in the same territories
- GY1954, proximity-based personnel safety in Guyana, one of the world's fastest-growing offshore drilling markets
- US12761309, unauthorized worker location, granted on 30th September 2026
- US12449502, US12320909, US12306290, US12474464, US12386056, infrared worker location, unauthorized worker location, equipment integration and personnel safety sensing, granted in 2025
Two more Red Zone patents, in the US and Canada, are at the final grant stage.
Innovation that protects Red Zones and people
Red Zones, the high-risk areas where crews work alongside heavy machinery and robotics, are among the most hazardous places on any drilling rig. Salunda's modular Red Zone monitoring solutions give drilling contractors and operators a choice of how to protect those zones and the people who work in them. HaloGuard® uses AI-powered 3D ranging cameras to detect and locate people in hazardous zones and in the vicinity of energized equipment, with no wearables required. Optional wearable devices identify each crew member's role, manage authorized and restricted access, pause machinery and deliver instant personal alerts to anyone at risk.
HaloGuard® integrates seamlessly with equipment to prevent line-of-fire incidents. Hardware integrations detect energized equipment and trigger instant alerts for at-risk personnel. Software integrations stream equipment status and position to create fully dynamic zones. Automated operations can be triggered, improving crew safety while minimizing downtime. Built-in analytics add heatmaps, zone violation trends and playback, helping customers spot risk patterns and sharpen coaching, training and toolbox talks.
Salunda now has dozens of Red Zone monitoring systems deployed across five regions worldwide.
Alan Finlay, Chief Executive of Salunda, said: "Red Zone monitoring is where our customers need us most, and it's where we invest most. Four new Red Zone patents this year, and a Red Zone portfolio more than twice the size it was at the start of 2025, show the pace of our innovation across cameras, wearables, infrared, ranging sensors and machine integration.
"With 140 granted patents worldwide and a strong pipeline still to come, we have a protected technology base that lets us stand alongside equipment OEMs and large global players, and bring new products to market quickly as we deploy more systems around the world."
